About The Organisation

Pay.UK sits at the heart of the UK economy. It is the designated operator for the UK’s retail payments operations and enables £37 billion of payments every day through systems such as Bacs, Faster Payments and cheques, keeping money flowing safely, securely, and efficiently across the country.

It is working in partnership with the Bank of England and the Delivery Company to transform the way that payments are delivered in the UK. At the same time, it is creating common standards which will drive excellence, resilience and innovation across the industry.

Pay.UK occupies a unique position as an independent organisation, enabling it to balance a complex range of stakeholder interests and deliver change for the benefit of end users.

Position Description

The opportunity
Pay.UK wishes to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) to act as its End User Champion, a pivotal Board-level role at a time of significant change and innovation across the payments landscape.

This is a high-impact role with real influence. As End User Champion, you will:

  • Bring a strong end-user perspective into Board discussion, strategy and oversight
  • Ensure that stakeholder insight is effectively reflected in decision-making and delivery priorities
  • Provide independent challenge to the Executive to strengthen outcomes for consumers and businesses
  • Support Pay.UK’s ambition to be demonstrably stakeholder-centric
  • Contribute to the oversight of strategy, risk, and major transformation programmes.

You will work closely with fellow Board members, the Executive team, regulators and a wide network of stakeholders, helping to shape a payments system that is innovative, resilient and designed around those it serves.

This is a full Board appointment. As an INED, you will share collective responsibility for the long-term success of Pay.UK, bringing independent judgement and constructive challenge within a systemically important and highly regulated environment. To preserve independence, the role holder will have no current employment or affiliation that could give rise to a conflict within the payments or financial services ecosystem.
