About The Organisation

PLUS is a registered charity providing support services for adults with learning disabilities, primarily in Lewisham, South London.

Our work is centred on supporting people to maintain and develop their independence, with a strong focus on meaningful involvement in their local communities. We aim to deliver the standard of care and support we would expect for ourselves or our own families. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as both a residential and domiciliary care provider and specialise in supporting adults with learning disabilities.

Our range of services includes registered care, supported living, residential respite, outreach support, as well as training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Position Description

We have a strong board, dedicated and experienced leadership team, a committed workforce, and a positive organisational culture. As we continue to develop and deliver our strategic priorities, we are keen to bring fresh thinking, skills, and perspectives to the Board to support and challenge the organisation as it grows.

We are seeking committed and values-driven individuals to join our Board of Trustees and play an important role in supporting the ongoing development of PLUS. As a trustee, you will work collaboratively with fellow board members to provide strategic oversight, support, and constructive challenge to the Executive Leadership Team. Our Board operates within a consensus-based decision-making structure, where open discussion and shared responsibility are key.

Commitment required:

The board will meet quarterly throughout the year, on Monday evenings from 5pm-7pm. The meetings are hybrid, with trustees joining virtually or in our Lewisham offices.

Trustees should expect, on average, one additional meeting per quarter on their ‘lead’ area. This may be through a committee, with another trustee and/or executive management, and will be arranged at mutual convenience.

Our supportive induction programme will also include a visit to our front-line services, and trustees are invited to regular celebratory events for staff and service users (typically our annual Awards Ceremony, summer BBQ and/or Christmas party).

Selection Criteria

We are currently looking to appoint up to two new trustees. In particular, we would welcome candidates who bring experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • People management or human resources
  • Data or cybersecurity
  • Lived experience of supporting a family member with a learning disability

Previous board experience is not essential – a passion for empowering people through quality social care and understanding of the charity sector are more important. We have a strong and supportive Board with a range of experience, and we are committed to helping new trustees develop in the role.

We strive to ensure our Board reflects the diverse community we serve. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, but particularly young trustees and people from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

How to Apply

Applications for the Trustee position are open until 3rd July 2026.

To apply, please send your CV along with a short cover letter to [email protected]

For an informal discussion about the role, you are welcome to contact the Board Chair, Gail Emerson, by email (above) to arrange a convenient time.
