About CALM
Suicide is the biggest killer in men under 50. And the suicide rate for young women under 24 has seen the steepest increase since records began. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

We take a stand against suicide in the UK — loudly, boldly and with purpose.

We run a life-saving helpline and webchat service offering free, confidential support to anyone struggling or in crisis.

Our website is packed with tools, guides and resources to help people take action and find support.

We run powerful, award-winning campaigns to challenge stigma, spark conversations and shift attitudes around mental health and suicide. We use everything from sport, music and comedy to social media and street art to reach people in unexpected places — and get them talking.

From Project 84 to The Invisible Opponent and Missed Birthdays, our campaigns make headlines, drive awareness and change lives. Working with major brands and organisations, we’ve helped put suicide prevention on the national agenda, including the appointment of the UK’s first-ever Minister for Suicide Prevention.

CALM is powered by a passionate, creative and committed team. We fundraise, campaign, design, share stories, write code, organise events, build partnerships and everything in between — all united by a shared goal: standing together against suicide.

We believe in hope, humour and human connection. We support each other, champion individuality and work hard to make CALM a place where you can be yourself, grow and make a real difference.

About the roles
This is an exciting time to join the Board of CALM. It offers the opportunity to play a significant role in our work to support people to end their misery, not their lives.

As a Trustee of CALM, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity, which is dedicated to preventing suicide. Your leadership and expertise will help us expand our impact, strengthen our governance and drive innovation.

Selection Criteria

Applications close: 9 a.m. Monday 22nd June 2026.

Who we are looking for
We are seeking passionate, strategic and forward-thinking individuals to join our Board, bringing different perspectives and expertise to complement our existing members and strengthen governance in key areas. If you share our values and feel inspired by our mission, we would love to hear from you.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with knowledge of:

  • Strategic clinical services: individuals with significant experience in setting strategic direction within complex health services and those with a depth of understanding in relation to our work.
  • Governance and legal expertise: individuals with an understanding of our legal requirements, who can bring their experience of compliance, risk and governance and act as our company secretary.

We are also open to hearing from individuals whose experience may not fit these criteria directly but who feel they could make a valuable strategic contribution to CALM’s mission and governance.
