Ygam is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to empowering children and young people to lead safer digital lives, with a particular focus on preventing gaming and gambling harms, which can affect their financial, social, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing, as well as their relationships.

Through CPD-certified training and an award-winning library of resources, we support those in positions of care or influence, such as teachers, parents, youth workers and professionals, who have a unique opportunity to take meaningful action.

Supported by independent evaluations, our work has a proven track record of impact. Since 2020, we have trained nearly 40,000 delegates and reached an estimated 6.5 million children and young people across the UK. We’re making real progress in safeguarding our digital generation.

Position Description

Help shape the future of youth online harms prevention and empower children and young people to lead safer digital lives by becoming the Chair of Trustees of Ygam.

The opportunity

Yet there is still more to do. As the conversation around online safety continues to grow in homes and schools, our purpose is becoming more relevant and necessary than ever.

You will struggle to find a young person in 2026 who doesn’t regularly play video games, and more young people now engage with gambling than other risky behaviours. Equipping parents, educators, and communities with the knowledge and tools to help young people navigate a complex digital world safely has never been more important.

What is less widely recognised is how in-game features and monetisation in modern video games are increasingly blurring the lines between gaming and gambling, creating risks that children need to be resilient against.

As the digital landscape evolves and regulatory frameworks adapt, our work becomes increasingly critical in safeguarding young people from online harms.

As our current Chair’s term comes to an end this year, we are looking for a visionary leader to join our board, help shape the future of harm prevention and share our passion for keeping our children and young people safe in the digital world.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the board at a critical time when digital safeguarding has never been more important. It is an exciting time to join Ygam as our new Chair, as we have secured funding from the new levy, and have a very ambitious new strategy in devleopment.

We are currently seeking a Chair who will play a pivotal role in leading our Board of Trustees. This position requires an individual with excellent board, corporate strategy and leadership experience, combined with the commercial acumen to support Ygam through an ambitious period of change and income diversification. It is key that the new Chair brings strong experience in charity governance. The Chair will work closely with the CEO, and Board of Trustees to ensure we continue to deliver maximum impact while maintaining the highest standards of governance.

For our Chair position, we’re seeking an individual who brings not only strong leadership experience, but also the ability to guide strategic discussions. This role requires someone who can balance strategic oversight with practical governance experience, ensuring Ygam continues to evolve and adapt to emerging challenges.

The ideal candidates will share our passion for safeguarding and educating young people while bringing their own unique insights to enhance our work. You’ll bring strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking, alongside experience of supporting organisations to evolve, diversify their income, and develop sustainable operating models. We are also interested potentially in experience in public health. Critically, you’ll be a confident and supportive chair who can work in close partnership with a CEO navigating change, providing clear governance that helps a talented executive team to thrive.

We believe that diverse experiences and perspectives are crucial to effective governance. The digital challenges facing young people today are complex and interconnected, requiring a board that can view issues through multiple lenses.
