About The Organisation

New City College (NCC) is a sector-leading college group with campuses spanning east London and south-west Essex, as well as two language schools. NCC has been graded by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ during the most recent inspection in March 2025.

Position Description

As Chair, this is an opportunity to shape the strategic oversight of a mature, high‑performing institution at scale – one that now needs governance leadership focused on sustaining excellence, navigating complexity and enabling confident future growth. Our current Chair, Rob Hull, has guided NCC through a challenging and hugely successful period of NCC’s history. Through a series of successful mergers, a constant trajectory of improvement and an Outstanding Ofsted inspection, NCC is recognised as one of the largest and most influential colleges in the further education sector, and the NCC Corporation, led by its Chair, has been a vital element of this journey of success.

The successful candidate will formally assume the role in January 2027, after the current incumbent steps down at the end of December 2026. This transition period will allow the incoming Chair to build strong relationships, understand the organisation’s scale and complexity and shape the next phase of leadership with confidence and continuity.

As Chair, you will lead the Board in ensuring high standards of governance, educational excellence and long‑term financial sustainability. You will set the tone for effective, inclusive and values‑driven governance, enabling governors to operate as confident, constructive and well‑informed decision‑makers.

Selection Criteria

This role will particularly appeal to a Chair who is comfortable operating at scale and through complexity. NCC is financially strong and nationally respected, but operates in a rapidly evolving policy, funding and skills environment. As Chair, you will therefore play a vital part in ensuring that NCC’s ambition, capital development, estates strategy and long‑term resilience continue to align with its mission to transform lives and communities through education.

How to Apply

Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Monday 15th June.
