Position Description

New City College is one of the largest and most successful FE college groups in England, serving East London and Essex through locally rooted campuses. Formed through a series of strategic mergers, the Group educates over 20,000 learners and has an annual income over £130 million.

What will you be doing?

In 2025, NCC was judged Outstanding by Ofsted, recognising the strength of its leadership, the quality of its provision and its impact for students, employers and communities. With a strong financial foundation and growing national influence, New City College is firmly established as a leading force in the further education sector. As the Group looks ahead, continued strategic focus will be required to ensure that its quality of provision, capital investment, estate strategy and long-term financial resilience keep pace with the scale of its ambitions and the rapidly evolving skills, funding and policy environment.

Trustees help to ensure all learners get the best possible experience and leave equipped for the next stage of life whether employment, training or continuing in education. Board members join the main Board and serve on a Committee and are expected to attend 8-10 meetings per year including two strategy days. Meetings take place in person at our Poplar campus in the early evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays, whilst the strategy days take place during the working day at either our Hackney campus or off-site. We actively encourage Board members to visit our campuses during the working day and attend events such as the annual student awards. You may have been a Governor elsewhere but this is not essential.

What difference will you make?

As part of our Board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, helping to ensure that all learners have the best possible experience, equipping them for the next step, be that employment, further education or training.
